Flower skin: it is the capillary layer of the dermis located between the epidermis, which is the external one, and the reticular one. This leather is characterized by its graining.

Nubuck leather: it is obtained from the flower part of the dermis, after being polished and oiled. A treatment that gives it softness and turns it into a fine and flexible skin. Its touch is reminiscent of peach skin. It is very suitable for sports shoes.

Split leather: it is the official name of what we find today as suede on the market. It is very similar by its touch. It is obtained from the inner face of the leather, after sawing several layers of the skin.

Patent leather: it is named after the treatment in the finish of the leather, generally applied to the suede part. The treatment is made with a varnish that gives it a brilliant shine, as well as a protection that prevents cracks. In fact, the word patent leather comes from Cantonese Chinese and means varnish or lacquer. It is one of the most valuable leathers that exist and is used par excellence in dress shoes. In the men’s locker room, protocol requires wearing lace-up patent leather shoes with the tailcoat.

Suede: originally called antelope skin, but today includes skins with a polished surface, such as nubuck or suede.
